RStudio Team is a bundle of RStudio’s popular professional software that runs on Linux servers behind your organization’s firewall; but servers can be expensive and time consuming to set up. The RStudio Team QuickStart VM is a virtual machine that runs on Mac and Windows desktops, making it easy for you to get hands-on experience.

Installation Requirements

RStudio Team QuickStart VM requires a Mac or Windows desktop that is capable of running VirtualBox, has 15 Gb of disk space, and is connected to the Internet. You also agree to the following terms and conditions.

Getting Started


Step 1: Install VirtualBox

RStudio Team QuickStart VM requires VirtualBox — a free and open source virtualization product that runs on Mac, Windows, and other operating systems. Download and install VirtualBox, then open the VirtualBox Manager.


Step 2: Import Appliance

Download the RStudio Team QuickStart VM then import it using the VirtualBox Manager.

  1. Navigate to File > Import Appliance.
  2. Select the file to import (.ova) then select Continue.
  3. Modify the appliance settings so you get the full 45 day trial license.
    • Mac: Select the Reinitialize Mac Address check box.
    • Windows: Select Generate new MAC addresses for all network adapters from the MAC Address Policy drop down.
    • Select Import.


Step 3: Start the virtual machine

Select the RStudio Team Quickstart VM from the application list, then use the dropdown under the start arrow to select Headless Start. Your virtual machine should start within a few seconds. Note: When the server first starts all necessary services should start up automatically, and port 5000 will be mapped by default.


Step 4: Navigate to your browser

Access the RStudio Team QuickStart VM by pointing your browser to http://localhost:5000. If you can see the Getting Started page, your installation was successful. If the webpage fails to load, please refer to RStudio Team QuickStart VM Troubleshooting and the RStudio Community.
